2 Moulvibazar war criminals get death, life term for 3 others

A special tribunal in Dhaka has awarded death penalty to two Razakars from Moulvibazar and imprisonment for life to three others for crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971. 

The three-member tribunal led by Justice Md Shahinur Islam pronounced the verdict on Wednesday.

The death raw convicts are Ujer Ahmed Chowdhury and Nesar Ali while Yunus Ahmed, Samsul Hossain Tarafder and Mobarak Mia were awarded imprisonment for life.  

On December 8, 2016, the tribunal indicted the five in the crimes against humanity case and recording deposition against the accused started on January 15, 2017. 

According to the prosecution, the accused ran havoc in the locality during the War of Liberation as the leaders of local Razakar Bahini and Al-Badr.
