HC orders to dispose Shahidul Alam's bail plea by Tuesday

The High Court on Monday ordered the lower court concerned to dispose the bail petition filed by photographer Shahidul Alam by tomorrow (Tuesday).  

An HC bench comprising Justice Rezaul Haque and Justice Abu Taher Mohammad Saifur Rahman passed the order after hearing on the bail petition. 

Barrister Sarah Hossain and Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua stood for Shahidul Alam in today's hearing. 

The bail petition for the acclaimed photographer and Drik Gallery managing director was filed on August 28.

On September 4, one judge of a two-member High Court bench felt embarrassed to hear the bail petition.

On September 5, the HC directed the authorities concerned to provide first-class division to Shahidulin Alam in jail. 

Detectives arrested Shahidul Alam from his Dhanmondi residence on August 5 and a case under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act was filed against him with Ramna Police Station on August 6. He was also placed on a seven-day remand in the case.

Police claimed that he spread propaganda through his Facebook account during the student movement demanding safe roads.
