Cabinet okays draft of RPO amendment keeping provision to use EVM

The cabinet has approved the draft of an amendment to the charter of Representation of People Order (RPO) keeping a provision to incorporate the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the upcoming parliamentary election.     

The approval was given at the regular meeting of the Cabinet held at the PM's office on Monday with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam briefed media after the meeting. He said the draft of the RPO has been okayed keeping a provision to incorporate the use of EVMs in the next general election. 

Earlier on August 30, the Election Commission decided to send a proposal to the government for amending the electoral laws so it can use EVMs in the December national polls.
