PM seeks support to remove chemical warehouses from Old Dhaka

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged all concerned to extend their all-out cooperation in removing chemical warehouse from Old Dhaka.    

She told this to the reporters after visiting the survivors of Chawkbazar fire at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Saturday morning.

Expressing her condolences to the burned victims, she said, "It's regretful that still there are chemical warehouses in Old Dhaka despite repeated drives against it."     

At least 67 people were killed and around 41 others injured in the devastating fire that broke out at a chemical warehouse and raged through four other adjacent buildings in the city’s Chawkbazar area on Wednesday night.

Earlier in 2010, at least 124 people were killed and over 200 others injured in the fire originated from a stove in a building that also housed a flammable chemical warehouse.
