Now cobbler donates his savings of Tk 20,000 to PM’s relief fund

Milon Rabidas, a poor cobbler, has donated Taka 20,000 to the Prime Minister (PM)’s relief fund in a bid to mitigate sufferings of the poor and jobless people in the wake of coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Belonging to the backward Dalit community of Abdullahpur village in Mithapukur upazila of the district, Milon donated the money to the PM’s relief fund through Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Mamun Bhuiyan at his office on Monday afternoon.

After handing over the money to the UNO, Milon said he saved a little amount of money from his daily earnings from repairing shoes for many years aiming to build a thatched house of his own in the future.

“But, I changed my mind to donate my money to the PM’s relief fund after observing the sufferings of the jobless people from food shortage following the joblessness situation caused by the COVID-19 outbreak,” he said.

Milon said he had never seen such a disaster like coronavirus in his lifetime. The epidemic of coronavirus has made him understood to stand beside the suffering humanity.

“I saved the little money by repairing and sewing shoes to build a house. But, I left my plan after observing miseries of the people who have become helpless due to the disaster caused by coronavirus. So why, donated the money,” he said.

“I donated the long-accumulated Taka 20,000 to the Prime Minister’s relief fund. Hopefully, it will benefit the poor people even a little bit,” Milon added.

Talking to BSS, UNO Mamun Bhuiyan highly appreciated the noble donation of Milon Rabidas and said that the donated money will be sent to the PM’s relief fund at the earliest for the purpose.
