Shahjahanpur Double Murder: ‘Shooter’ Masum placed on 7-day remand

A Dhaka court has granted 7-day remand for  Masum Mohammad alias Akash in the case filed over killing two people, including former general secretary of Motijheel Awami League Jahidul Islam Tipu in Shahjahanpur on March 24.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Tofazzal Hossain passed the order on Monday.

Rifat Rahman Shamim, DC of Motijheel Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police, told The Daily Samakal, "We wanted a 10-day remand in court but the court granted a seven-day remand.”

The defense, on the other hand, filed a petition for bail and the annulment of the remand order, claiming that the accused had no connection to the deaths. Furthermore, the accused was tortured inhumanely after being arrested.

After hearing both sides, the magistrate dismissed the defense claims and remanded him to be questioned about the incident.
