Govt fixes prices of eggs, potatoes, onions

For the first time, the government has fixed the prices of three essential commodities, namely – eggs, potatoes, and onions. 

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi made the announcement after a meeting at the ministry on Thursday. 

According to the minister, the government has fixed the price of each egg at Tk 12. The price of onions has been fixed at Tk 64-65 per kg and potatoes Tk 35-36 per kg. 

The Directorate of National Consumers Rights Protection will start monitoring the market to ensure the commodities are being sold at fixed prices from Thursday afternoon, he said. 

Regarding the decision to import eggs, the minister said at first a limited stock of the commodity will be imported. If the price still does not go down, large quantities will be imported.
