Recruitment tests of 8 banks cancelled

The Bankers' Selection Committee of Bangladesh Bank has cancelled the recruitment tests of the eight state-run banks, which was held on January 12.   

The decision was taken unanimously from an emergency meeting of Bangladesh Bank presided over by its Governor Fazle Kabir on Tuesday.  

Abul Kalam Azad, General Manager (GM) of the central bank, confirmed the matter to Samakal.  

Alongside cancellation of the tests, a committee has been formed headed by the bank’s executive director Ahmed Jamal to investigate the mismanagement of taking the tests, he said.

The 100-mark MCQ test for Sonali, Janata, Rupali, Bangladesh Development, Bangladesh Krishi, Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank, Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation and the Investment Corporation of Bangladesh was held on 12 January.  

Hundreds of the candidates at the Mirpur Shah Ali Girls College centre vandalised the exam centre and blocked roads as they did not get seats there for the examination on the day. 

The candidates continued their protest through agitations and also in social media demanding a fresh exam and punitive action against the responsible for the mismanagement.

Earlier, the central bank had decided to retake the recruitment test following the mismanagement at two exam centres at Mirpur where over 6000 applicants missed to sit for their test.  

After the new decision, now all the applicants will have to sit for exam again when Bangladesh Bank will hold a fresh recruitment test.
