Temperature plunges to 11.3°C in Tetulia

The minimum temperature in the country was recorded at 11.3°C at Panchagarh's Tetulia on Friday morning, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said in a bulletin. 

Meanwhile, the maximum temperature on Thursday was recorded at 32.4°C at Sitakunda. 

According to Russell Shah, official-in-charge of the Tetulia Weather Observatory, the lowest temperature at Tetulia was around 12°C for the last few days. But it plunged lower on Friday. 

Day labourers and other low-income workers were seen out and about despite the thick fog engulfing the district. Chilling cold engulfs the area as soon as the sun sets. Cold persists even after sunrise, locals said. 

The onset of winter has brought about a flurry of cold-related health problems. Hospitals in the district are receiving more and more patients everyday, ill with regular colds, coughs, pneumonia, and diarrhoea. 

Panchagarh Sadar Hospital Pediatrician Dr Monowarul Islam said a special medical team was formed to treat children suffering from cold-related illness. 

According to the BMD's weather bulletin, night temperature may rise and day temperature may fall slightly over the country.

The Deep Depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining area moved north-northwestwards over the same area at 06:00 am on Friday. It is likely to move north-northwesterly direction further. Its associated trough extends up to the North Bay.

Light rain is likely to occur at one or two places over Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions. The weather may remain mainly dry with a temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country, the forecast adds.

The sun sets at 05:10 pm on Friday and rises at 06:23 am on Saturday in the capital.
