Bus-private car collision kills 5 in Sunamganj

Five people, including four members of a family, were killed and 20 people injured following head-on a collision between a bus and a private car in Sunamganj on Wednesday. 

The incident took place on Sunmaganj-Sylhet highway in Pagla area of Dakkhin Sunamganj upazila. 

The deceased were identified as Abdus Shahid, 70, his wife Hafsanul Begum, 60, their son Kabir Ahmed, 40, daughter Afsunnesa, 35, and driver Sabbir Miah, hailing from Birpur village in Chukerbazar union under Jalalabad Police Station.

Jakir Hossain, sub-inspector of Dakkhin Sunamganj Police Station, said the Sylhet-bound bus collided with the Sunamganj-bound private car around 12:00pm, leaving four passengers of the private car dead on the spot and the driver critically injured.

Later, the injured driver died on the way to hospital.

On information, police recovered the bodies.
