5 ‘members of fraud gang’ held in Gazipur

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive arrested five members of a fraud gang from a house at Koabari in Gazipur early Friday.

They used to collect money from people introducing themselves as judge and magistrate.

The arrestees are Masud Rana,  Gulshan Ara Liza, wife of Masud Rana, Raju Ahmed, Raju’s wife Aklima Akter, 25 of Tangail district and Taslima Khatun, daughter of Moslem Uddin Sardar of Pabna district.

Tipped off, a team of Rab-1 conducted a drive on the 5th floor of a multi-story building around 12:20 am and arrested them, said a press release of Rab headquarters.

The Rab team also recovered 14 mobile phone sets and Tk 4,000 cash from their possession.

The arrestees introducing themselves as Judge, Magistrate, Deputy Commissioner and chief Judicial Magistrate used to realize money from government officials including Civil Surgeon and Mayor threatening them over mobile phone, said the Rab press release.
