BNP’s Dissent Note labelled ‘Note of Cheating’ by NCP’s Nasiruddin Patwary

National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary has branded the BNP’s note of dissent in the National Consensus Commission a “note of cheating”.

Speaking at a seminar titled Implementation of the July Charter and the Future of National Election—organised by the NCP’s youth wing, Jatiya Jubo Shakti—at the party’s temporary office in Dhaka’s Bangla Motor, Patwary said, “The BNP sowed the first seeds of division after the July Uprising. Their so-called dissent note is nothing but a note of cheating.”

He accused the BNP of submitting a similar dissent in the Public Service Commission (PSC) merely to demonstrate “brotherhood”. 

“Such tactics will have no place in the new Bangladesh. If the BNP attempts to manipulate the commission, the youth will stand firmly against them,” he warned.

Patwary further alleged that while Jamaat-e-Islami publicly endorses the July Charter, it is privately bargaining for seats under the Proportional Representation (PR) system—an act he described as hypocritical.

He urged the government to promptly issue an ordinance to enact the recommended charter, stating: “Only Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has the authority to sign it.”

On the Election Commission’s allocation of the ‘Shapla Koli’ symbol, Patwary remarked: “The EC has assigned us this symbol in the new gazette. We fail to understand the basis of this decision, but we remain uncompromising on the ‘Shapla’ symbol.”

He demanded that the EC issue a fresh gazette reinstating the Shapla symbol and warned that the NCP would launch a democratic movement outside the EC office if the demand is ignored.

At the same event, NCP Joint Convenor Tasnim Jara said the party is ready to sign the July Charter but requires a clear implementation roadmap first.
