Man with ties to Jan 6 riot arrested near Obama’s DC home

An unidentified man was arrested while rushing towards Barack Obama's home in the US's Washington DC and yelling that he had explosives, reports The Independent.

According to the city's Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), the man was identified as Taylor Taranto, 37. He has an active arrest warrant, related to the attack on the US capitol on January 6.

On Thursday, he was chased by police and the secret service as he ran towards former president Barack Obama's house and threatened the authorities that he had an explosive device. He was captured and charged with being a fugitive from justice. His vehicle was swept for explosives, The Independent adds.

"There is no active threat to the community and this incident remains under investigation," said an MPD spokesperson.

It was not clear whether Obama or any of his family members were at home while this incident happened.
