Bangladesh strongly commited to fight global extremism

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan has reassured the United Nations of Bangladesh's strong commitment in the global fight against extremism and terrorism in the regional and international level, an official statement said here today, reports BSS.

 

"He (Kamal) highlighted the 'zero tolerance' policy of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina against the extremism while speaking at the session," the statement quoted him as saying as UN Secretary General Ban-Ki-moon presented a "plan of action" at a crucial UN session yesterday.

 

According to the statement Kamal highlighted Bangladesh's initiatives to fight terrorism and violence involving women, civil society, religious leaders, people at grassroots and media.

 

Representatives from 193 member countries took part in the session.

The minister took part in the session after inaugurating machine

readable passport (MRP) and Machine Readable Visa (MRV) at Bangladesh

consulate general office in Mexico and New York.

 

The UN plan of action came three months after the global leaders

including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined a conference on "Countering Violent Extremism" (CVE) on the UN General Assembly (UNGA) sidelines.
