Public university teachers return to classes

The teachers of all the 37 public universities have returned to their classrooms on Wednesday after a nine-day work abstention over the issue of their salary hike.

Dhaka University campus got momentum and life returned here again with the gathering of students. Students were seen throughout the campus and they were seemed with fanfare mood after resuming their classes.  

Farid Uddin Ahmed, president of Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers’ Association (FBUTA), said that as per the decision of the federation, classes of all public universities have been resumed from today.

Earlier on Tuesday, after getting assurance of a solution from the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the agitating public university teachers called off their strikes.

A meeting regarding the alleged disputed pay scale of public university teachers was held between the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers' Association (FBUTA) at the PM's official residence Gonobhaban in the capital on Monday.
 
'The Prime Minister assured that a 'promotion ladder' for grade 3 to 1 teachers will be created and other problems will be solved,' Prime Minister's Press Secretary, Ihsanul Karim, had confirmed after the meeting.
