Two to die for raping, murdering schoolgirl in Pirojpur

A Pirojpur court on Sunday awarded death penalty to two youths for raping and killing a 9-year-old schoolgirl.

Pirojpur District and Sessions Judge Md Golam Kibria handed down the judgment in presence of the convicts Mehedi Hasan Swapan, 22, and Suman Jamaddar, 20.

The court also ordered the convicts to pay Tk 100,000 each to the victim’s family.

According to the case details, the victim used to live with her grandparents in Mothbarhi Upazila and study in Class-III at a local school.

On Oct 5, 2014, she was tending a cow on the school grounds when the two youths lured her into a nearby mahogany orchard.

According to the confessions of the convicts, they raped the schoolgirl and strangled her to death with a scarf.
