Hearing on Mir Quasem's appeal adjourned till Feb 9

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court today adjourned the hearing on an appeal filed by Jamaat leader Mir Quasem Ali till February 9, reports BSS.

 

Quasem, a central executive member of Jamaat, lodged the appeal on November 30, 2014, challenging the death sentence handed down to him by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 for committing crimes against humanity in 1971.

 

Today was set for holding hearing on the matter. But advocate Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, chief counsel for Quasem, sought time for preparation. The four-member Appellate Division panel headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha then adjourned the hearing.

 

The now defunct ICT-2 on November 2, 2014, sentenced Quasem to death as it found him guilty of 10 charges out of the total 14.

 

Ali, infamously known as "Bangali Khan" during 1971, in his appeal sought acquittal of the charges, citing 181 grounds.
