‘Offspring of war criminals to lose voting right’

The offspring of the convicted war criminals will lose their voting right although they can stay in the country, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque has said.

The minister came up with the remark while speaking at a programme after inaugurating the newly constructed ‘Muktijoddha Complex Bhaban’ at Muktarpara in Netrokona on Saturday.

New law is being made against those who eye-beam Bangladesh’s independence and liberation war, he said adding that “Although the offspring of the convicted war criminals can stay in the country, they will lose their voting right and cannot get the government jobs.”

Sheikh Hasina’s government is the pro-liberation government and the freedom fighters, who were deprived in the previous government’s tenure, are being evaluated as per their sacrifice, said the minister.  

The programme was held on the collectorate school premises. Deputy Commissioner of Netrokona Dr. Tarun Kanti Sikder, Superintendent of Police Joydeb Chowdhury, district Awami League acting President Motiar Rahman Khan, district commander of freedom fighter Nurul Amin, among others, were present while Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy took the chair.
