Justice Shamsuddin to return files of unfinished judgments soon, hopes CJ

Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha has hopped that former Supreme Court (SC) justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik will return the files of his judgments and orders that he wrote after retiring from the job to the SC’s register general office as soon as possible.

In a press release, signed by the acting Register General of the SC Abu Syed Diljar Hussain, sent to media on Sunday afternoon, the chief justice also suggested justice Shamsuddin that he should not give any statement to media regarding the judgments and orders.

Former justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik addressed a press conference on February 7 on the SC premises when the activities of the court was running which is unprecedented and it came to the chief justice’s notice by electronic media, reads the press release.

Earlier in the day, justice Shamsuddin sent a letter to the chief justice requesting him to accept the copies of his judgments and orders that he wrote after retiring from the job.

Justice Shamsuddin still had 15 verdicts and 70 orders to write when he went into retirement on October 1 last year. 

In a statement on the occasion of the first anniversary of his taking office as the country's 21st chief justice, Surendra Kumar Sinha said some judges make unusual delays in writing verdicts while others continue to write them long after they have retired from the service, which goes against the law and the constitution.
