Gold bars recovered at Shahjalal Airport

Nine gold bars were recovered by Customs Intelligence after the carrier of the consignment released those through his stool passage at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport early Wednesday, reports UNB.

 

The gold bars were kept concealed inside the stomach of the carrier, identified as Roman Talukdar, 35, who arrived at the airport by a flight of Bangladesh Biman Airlines from Kuala Lumpur around 6:00 pm on Tuesday.

 

Sources at the airport said officials of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) suspiciously challenged Roman when he was about to leave the airport through the green channel on Tuesday evening.

 

After screening Roman through Archway, the customs intelligence officials suspected that metal-likes object were kept hidden inside his abdomen, said CIID’s director general Dr Moinul Khan.

 

As he denied to have such metal inside the stomach, the CIID officials took Roman to a local clinic and detected presence of gold bars inside through x-ray, the CIID’ DG added.

 

Finally, Roman was taken back to the airport and later around 1:30 am, he released nine gold bars through his stool passage, said Assistant Director of CIID Md Zakaria.

 

It is the rare incident of gold recovery such a way, Assistant Director Zakaria added.
