Mother who threw newborn sues brother-in-law

The mother who threw her newborn baby from a six-storey building in Dhaka’s Bailey road has filed a case against her brother-in-law for raping and impregnating her.

The 16-year-old single mother filed the case accusing her brother-in-law Nirob on Tuesday with Ramna Police Station, confirmed Sub-Inspector Humayun Kabir, who is also the investigating officer of the case.

The blood-smeared baby was found in critical condition on the rooftop of a one-storey building next to the six-storey building where it had been given birth on February 1.
 
Police later searched the six-storey building and arrested the 16-year-old house-help from a top floor apartment.
 
Police said after rescuing the baby that she gave birth to the “male child and threw him from the balcony shortly after”.
 
Police took the mother and the baby to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

At the hospital, the arrested woman told newsmen that nine months ago she went to her sister's house in Comilla.

She was raped by her brother-in-law Nirob and the child was born on Monday.
