IS claims ‘responsibility’ for Panchagarh priest murder

The Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility for the murder of a Hindu priest at a temple in Panchagarh, SITE Intelligence Group, a jihadist threat monitoring portal, says.

The SITE Intelligence Group published the news of IS claim regarding the murder in its website on Sunday night.

“IS claimed the murder of Hindu priest Jogeshwar Roy, the principal of the Sri Sri Shantu Santo Gaurio monastery, in northern Bangladesh,” reads the SITE news.

Earlier this morning, assailants hacked the Hindu priest Jogeshwar Roy to death in Debigonj upazila of Panchagarh district.

The incident happened at the Sri Sri Sonto Gouriyo Moth near Korotowa river of the upazila around 7:00am.

 
Another priest named Gopal Chandra Roy sustained bullet injury in the same attack. He is being treated at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

The SITE Intelligence Group had earlier reported that IS claimed responsibility for the murder of Italian aid worker Cesare Tavella in Dhaka, Japanese national Kunio Hoshi in Rangpur, attak on a Shia procession in Dhaka and attack on a Shia mosque in Bogra.
