BNP announces schedule to elect chairperson, senior vice-chairman

BNP has announced the schedule for the election in the party’s chairperson and senior vice-chairman posts ahead of its Sixth National Council. 

BNP standing committee member Barrister Jamir Uddin Sarkar, also the commissioner of the election, announced the schedule at the party’s Nayapaltan central office on Monday.   

According to the schedule, the nomination papers would be brought from 10:00am to 4:00pm on March 2 while the date of submitting nomination papers is March 4.

The nominations will be scrutinised at 11:00am on March 5 and the candidates could withdraw their candidacies on March 6 while the election will be held on March 19.

The aspirant candidates will be at least 30 years of old and they have to have the record of paying the party’s monthly contribution regularly, said Jamir Uddin Sarkar.

The election will be held on March 19 during the party’s Sixth National Council, he added.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s advisor MA Mannan, the party Organising Secretary Harun-ur-Rashid and Barrister Aminul Islam, who are members of the BNP’s election commission, were also present at that time.

Earlier, BNP amended its charter to make provision for holding election to the post of senior vice-chairman, currently occupied by Tarique Rahman.
