Outgoing ICRC head of delegation calls on FM

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali today said that Bangladesh would continue working with the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) for betterment of the distressed humanity, reports the BSS.

 

"Bangladesh will always remember with gratitude the humanitarian role of ICRC in this country during the 70s and afterwards and will continue working with them for betterment of the lives of the people in distress," he said.

 

The minister said this when the outgoing Head of Delegation of ICRC Christine Ciplolla called on him at his office here, a foreign ministry release said.

 

Ms. Cilpolla has worked in Bangladesh as Head of ICRC delegation since May 2013.

 

During the meeting, Christine Ciplolla provided an overview of ICRC's engagement in Bangladesh since 1970s as well as during her tenure.

 

ICRC has been working in close collaboration with Bangladesh Red Crescent Society in providing livelihood support, first aid and health care services to vulnerable communities in Chittagong Hill Tracts and Cox's Bazar district.

 

While briefing the minister, Ms. Ciplolla also expressed her deep appreciation to the government of Bangladesh for providing necessary support and cooperation in discharging her responsibilities.

 

Mahmood Ali thanked Ms. Ciplolla for her works in Bangladesh.

 

Recalling his personal association with ICRC since the early days of Bangladesh's independence as well as during his previous assignment as the Minister for Disaster Management and Relief, he praised the organization for providing humanitarian support to the people affected by disaster.

 

He also wished her success in her new place of work in Democratic Republic of Congo.

 

The new head of delegation of ICRC in Bangladesh Ikhtiyar Aslanov is expected to join his assignment sometime in April this year.
