Mirza Fakhrul granted bail

A Dhaka court has granted bail for BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in two arson cases filed with Paltan Police Station hours after sending him to prison in the same cases scraping his bail. 

After hearing a reconsideration petition filed by Fakhrul’s lawyer, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Golam Nabi granted the bail for Fakhrul around 4:00pm on Wednesday.

Fakhrul’s lawyer Sanaullah Mia moved the reconsideration petition with the court citing the reason that Fakhrul fell sick after imprisonment.


Earlier this noon, the same court had sent Fakhrul to jail upon surrendering before it in the two arson cases and granted bail in another case.

The Supreme Court extended Fakhrul’s bail for 15 more days in these two cases on February 29. He was asked to surrender before a lower court within the time frame.

Earlier in the day, the BNP leader surrendered before the lower court in line with the Supreme Court order.

It is worth to be mentioned here that Mirza Fakhrul has been made secretary general of BNP today. He has been acting secretary general for five years.
