Muezzin killed inside mosque in Old Dhaka

Unidentified miscreants have stabbed dead a muezzin, a man who calls Muslims to prayer, inside a mosque in Old Dhaka’s Islampur area.

The body of the muezzin was found in a pool of blood on the stairs of the mosque early Monday and police sent it to the Sir Salimullah Medical College morgue for autopsy.  

Victim Belal Hossain, 57, was the muezzin of Jabbu Khanam Mosque for last 20 years while he lived in the third storey of the mosque.

Assistant Commissioner of DMP (Kotwali zone) said that the miscreants stabbed dead the muezzin around last night and managed to flee the scene.
