‘Shafik Rehman has dual citizenship’

Journalist Shafik Rehman, who was arrested from his Dhaka’s Eskaton residence on Saturday morning, has dual citizenship, said his wife Taleya Rehman.

Taleya Rehman went to the Detective Branch headquarters on Minto Road as her husband was taken there after arresting and disclosed the matter to the journalists.  

Taleya Rehman said both her husband and she have the citizenship of Bangladesh and the United Kingdom. “We’ve already informed the British high commissioner about this,” she added.

Detectives arrested Shafik Rehman over a case filed previously, which states of attempting to abduct and murder Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Bangladesh’s chief IT adviser and the son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
