Khaleda demands Shafik Rehman's immediate release

Condemning the arrest of journalist Shafik Rehman, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has demanded his immediate release.

The BNP chief made the demand in a statement issued on Saturday afternoon.

Shafik Rehman, also an adviser to Khaleda, has been placed on a five-day remand following his arrest.

In the statement, Khaleda said the government has been arresting and torturing renowned journalists and editors by filing “false” cases against them.

Detectives arrested Shafik Rehman over a case filed previously, which states of attempting to abduct and murder Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Bangladesh’s chief IT adviser and the son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
