No escape route for corrupt, warns ACC

There is no way for corrupt suspects to escape, no matter how influential they are, warned Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) secretary Abu M Mustafa Kamal on Thursday, reports the UNB.

 

“The Commission has recently arrested a number of graft suspects in separate cases. In our eyes, there is no big or small graft suspect. We treat them just as accused,” he told the monthly press briefing of the national anti-graft body at its media center in the capital.   

 

Kamal said investigation officers of the Commission decide who will be arrested or not and they arrest them in the interest of their investigations in the graft cases filed against them.

 

“There’s no bar to the arrest of influential graft suspects…nobody will be spared in graft cases,” he added. 

 

The Commission held over 20 graft suspects in separate cases in the last couple of days.

 

About Bangladesh Bank’s reserve heist, the ACC secretary said the central bank and police are investigating the incident and the ACC keeps watch on it. “The Commission is yet to decide about launching probe into the heist incident. It’ll initiate a probe in this regard, if necessary.”

 

About the Commission’s activities, Kamal said the ACC received 849 graft allegations in March last and it filed 34 cases during the period. The Commission also submitted charge-sheets before courts in 45 graft cases in March last. 

 

A total of 21 graft cases were settled in courts in March last while accused were convicted in 10 cases and graft suspects got released in 11 cases.
