7-day fresh remand to be sought for Shafik Rehman

Police will seek a seven-day fresh remand for journalist Shafik Rehman, former editor of Bangla daily Jaijaidin, in a case filed in connection with plotting to ‘abduct and kill’ Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son and her ICT adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy.

 

Assistant police super of Detective Branch (DB) Hasan Arafat said they will produce Shafik Rehman before the court in the afternoon on completion of his five-day remand in the case and will seek a seven-day remand for further interrogation, reports the UNB.

 

Earlier, on April 16, Judge Muhammad Mazharul Islam of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate court placed Shafik Rehman on the five-day remand in the case.

 

Detectives arrested journalist Shafik Rehman from his Eskaton Garden residence in the city on April 16.

 

Shafik Rehman, in his early 80s, was shown arrested in a criminal conspiracy case filed with Paltan Police Station on August 03, 2015 in connection with attempting to abduct and kill Joy.
