Govt to buy rice at Tk 32, paddy Tk 23

The government has set a target to procure six lakh tonnes of rice and seven lakh tonnes of paddy from the farmers in the current season.

A meeting of food monitoring and planning committee held at the Secretariat on Sunday decided that the government will buy rice at Tk 32 and paddy Tk 23 per kg.

Minister for Agriculture Motia Chowdhury, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed and the senior officials of the ministry were present at the meeting while Food Minister Qamrul Islam was on the chair.

A drive to buy the rice and paddy will start from May 5 and continue until August 31, Qamrul Islam told reporters after the meeting.

Last year, the government brought rice at Tk 32 and paddy Tk 22 per kg.
