Shafik Rehman sent to jail after remand

Journalist Shafik Rehman has been sent to jail after completion of his fresh five-day remand in a case filed on charge of attempting to abduct and murder Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy.

After completion of the second phrase remand, the investigation officer of the case produced Shafik Rehman before the trial court on Wednesday and pleaded to send him to jail.

Advocate Sanaullah Mia, lawyer of Shafik Rehman, also filed a bail petition to the court. Meanwhile, the court rejected the petition and ordered to send Shafik Rehman to jail.  

Detectives arrested Shafik Rehman, also an adviser to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, from his Dhaka’s Eskaton residence on April 16 over the case filed with Paltan Police Station.

Shafik Rehman was placed on a five-day remand after his arrest. The court placed him on a fresh five-day remand last Friday after completion of the first phrase remand.
