Over 8cr SIM cards registered: Tarana

State minister for Posts and Telecommunication Tarana Halim on Friday said over eight crore mobile phone SIM cards have been registered so far with biometric details.

 

"Mobile phone operators should be more conscious regarding SIM registration process to avoid any sort of sufferings of the people," she told reporters at Kandapara Govt Primary School at Tarabo Pourasabha in Narayanganj, reports BSS.

 

Local Lawmaker Golam Dastagir, representatives of local government bodies and officials, among others, were present on the occasion. 

 

Tarana said the government launched the campaign of re-registering SIMs/RIUMs under the biometric system on December 16 last to ensure the actual ownership of cellphone connection. Some 1.21 crore SIMs could not be registered for various reasons, including fingerprint mismatch with NID database, she added. 

 

As the biometric SIM verification will be ended at 10pm on April 30, the people, who are yet to verify their SIMs, should register within the scheduled time, the state minister added.
