Hossain, Moslem indicted for war crimes

The International Crimes Tribunal on Monday framed charges against two people of Nikli upazila in Kishoreganj district for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.

Passing the order, the three-member tribunal, headed by its chairman Justice M Anwarul Haque also set June 5 for starting the formal trial against them with the opening statement by the prosecution.

Among the two accused, Moslem Pradhan is in jail while Syed Mohammad Hussain alias Hossain is on the run, reports news agency UNB.

The tribunal framed charges against the duo on six counts that include forceful conversion Hindu people to Islam, killing, mass killing, abduction and persecution.

Dr Turin Afroz appeared for the prosecution while advocate Abdul Sattar Paloan stood for Moslem Pradhan.
