IS claims responsibility for Kushtia doctor killing: SITE

The Islamic State (IS) has reportedly claimed the responsibility for killing a homeopath doctor in Kushtia, SITE Intelligence Group says.

Quoting the militant group's Amaq news agency, US-based monitoring service SITE said the IS fighters in Bangladesh killed a doctor who ‘called to Christianity’ in the western district of Kushtia.

Mir Sanowar Rahman, 55, was killed on Friday by machete-wielding attackers, who came on a motorcycle.

The attack also left his friend Md Saifizzuaman, teacher of Kushtia’s Islamic University injured. He is being treated at a Dhaka hospital.

US-based monitoring group SITE tweeted the claim citing IS’ Amaq News Agency a day after the attack, Reuters reported.

Members of Islamic State have claimed responsibility for some attacks, including the killings of two foreigners last year, and a university professor and a Hindu last month. Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent has claimed some of the attacks.

The government, however, has denied that Islamic State or al Qaeda groups have a presence in the country and says home-grown Islamists are responsible for the wave of attacks.
