Govt successful to deal with Roanu: Syed Ashraf

Public Administration Minister and Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam today said the government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is successful to reduce the plights of affected people and other damages caused by the tropical cyclone codenamed "Roanu". 

 

"Sheikh Hasina from abroad gave al directives to strengthen the preparedness in the wake of the cyclone Roanu as well as to lessen the causalities and losses incurred by the people in the aftermath," he said.

 

The AL leader was addressing a discussion organized by Jatiya Sramik League marking the 35th Homecoming Day of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in front of AL Central Office on Bangabandhu Avenue here this afternoon, reports BSS.

 

AL Labour Affairs Secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj, Dhaka City South AL General Secretary Shahe Alam Murad and Sramik League General Secretary Sirajul Islam addressed the discussion, among others, with president of the organization Shukkur Mahmud in the chair.

 

Syed Ashraf said the government was very sincere in coping up with the challenges lay ahead as the storm has left places inundated and destroyed roads, houses and collapsed in the communitarian network in the region. 

 

He said some 500,000 people were evacuated to over 3800 cyclone shelters in the 18 coastal districts and the victims were provided with relief goods.
