First Tonu autopsy flawed: Amu

The first autopsy of Comilla Victoria College student and member of the college’s theatre Sohagi Jahan Tonu, who was found dead inside the Comilla Cantonment, was flawed, Industries Minister Amir Hussain Amu has said.

The minister came up with the disclosure while talking to reporters after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on law and order at the Secretariat in Dhaka on Sunday.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Engineer Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud, Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam BSc, Law Minister Anisul Haque, Labour and Employment Minister Mujibul Haque Chunnu, Home Secretary, Inspector General of Police were, among others, present at the meeting.

“The investigation got delayed because the first autopsy report was misleading and faulty. However, the CID got the evidences of rape involving three people in DNA test,” the minister said.

Tanu was found dead in a bush beside a culvert inside the Comilla Cantonment area on March 20 night. Her head was smashed, and she had allegedly been raped.

The victim’s father Year Hossain, an office assistant of Moinamoti Cantonment Board, filed a case against some unidentified people with Kotwali police station on March 21.

Comilla Medical College Hospital carried out the post-mortem of Tonu’s body on March 21. The doctors there did not find any signs of rape.

Meanwhile, a second autopsy was done after the court ordered the exhumation of her body. The report is still awaited.
