PM mourns death of Nurjahan Begum

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday expressed deep shock at the death of Nurjahan Begum, a pioneer of women renaissance in the subcontinent and the editor and publisher of weekly esteemed magazine for women "Begum".

 

In a condolence message, the Premier recalled with profound respect the contribution of Nurjahan Begum to the women renaissance in the subcontinent. "The nation has lost a great woman in her death," she said. 

 

Sheikh Hasina prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members, according to BSS report.

 

Nurjahan Begum breathed her last at the Square Hospital here this morning at the age of 91. 

 

She was admitted to the hospital with respiratory problems on May 4 and on life support since May 7.

 

Earlier, the Prime Minister took all the responsibilities for the treatment of ailing Nurjahan Begum when she was admitted to the hospital.
