Probe report on N’ganj teacher humiliation submitted

The probe body formed to investigate into the humiliation of Shyamal Kanti Bhakta, headmaster of Piyar Sattar Latif High School in Bandar Upazila of Narayanganj, on Thursday submitted its report to the office of attorney general.

Deputy Attorney General Motahar Hossain Saju confirmed the matter to Samakal. However, it is not yet known that what the report has said.

“The probe report of the education ministry has come to our hand and it will be submit to the court on Sunday,” he said adding the probe body has made several specific recommendations in the report.

On May 13, locals beat Shyamal Kanti Bhakta for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. At one stage, local MP AKM Selim Osman forced him to do sit-ups holding his ears.

A video clip of the incident went viral on social media, triggering public outrage and a firestorm of protests on social networking sites with people mimicking the squatting holding their earlobes.

A five-member committee was formed on May 18, headed by upazila secondary education officer Nurul Amin, to investigate the incident ‘as the issue is very sensitive’.

On May 19, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid told the media that they have dismissed the school’s managing body and reinstated Shyamal Kanti.
