BNP Joint Secretary General Aslam Chowdhury has been produced before a Dhaka court for the hearing of police’s remand pleas in two violence and a sedition cases.

Aslam Chowdhury was brought to the court from the jail around 10:00am on Monday, said court police's Sub Inspector (SI) Ruhul Amin.

Law enforcers have sought a 30-day remand for interrogating the BNP leader in three separate cases, reports our correspondent.
 

Police arrested the newly appointed BNP joint secretary general from capital’s Khilkhet area on May 15. Latter, he was remanded in police custody for seven days.

After the remand expired, police, on May 24, showed Aslam Chowdhury arrested in two violence cases and filed a remand plea in the court over the charges.

 
On May 26, police initiated a case on charges of sedition over an alleged plot with Israel to oust the Awami League government. 

Recently, a Bangla daily ran a series of reports where it was alleged that the BNP leader was involved in hatching a plot to topple the Awami League government by joining forces with an Israeli politician in New Delhi earlier this month.

The reports mentioned that Aslam met Mendi N Safadi, a leader of Israeli Likud Party and chief of International Diplomacy and Public Relations, in New Delhi early this month. The newspaper also published two photographs of Aslam and the Israeli leader.

Amid swirling controversy, Aslam admitted he met the Israeli politician but claimed the meeting was accidental.
 
Following the report, the ruling Awami League leaders alleged that BNP had been trying to come to power by using the Israeli intelligence agency.

Chittagong-based businessman Aslam also came under severe criticism at the party's standing committee meeting.
