Traders-hawkers fresh clash in Gulistan, hundreds held

More than hundred people were detained when frequent clashes happened among the traders and hawkers in capital's Gulistan area today.

 

The clashes were started around 12.00pm and continued till 2.00pm on the day.

 

Locals and eyewitnesses said, the clashes have been erupted as the traders prevented the hawkers to set-up their shops in the footpath in front of the Dhaka Trade Center in the area.

 

The protesters hurled bricks to each other while police fired several rounds of teargas shells to bring the situation under control.

 

Scores of people were injured in the frequent clashes including police members.

 

Paltan Thana Officer-In-Charge (OC), Morshed Alam, confirmed the incident to Samakal adding that the Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Anwar Hossain, was hurt during the clash.

 

He is now undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the OC added.
