Son, lawyers meet Mir Quasem in Jail

A son and four counsels of convicted war criminal Mir Quasem Ali today met him in suburban Kashimpur Central Jail, reports the BSS.

 

"His son Barrister Ahmad Bin Quasem, counsels Matiur Rahman Akand, Bazlur Rahman Khan, Nur Ullah and Nazibur Rahman met him in jail from 11.45 am to 12.30 pm," said Kashimpur Jail part-2 superintendent Proshanto Kumar Banik.

 

The jail superintendent said the five men came to jail at around 11.30 am and sought their permission to meet the 64-year-old convict for consulting about his plea seeking review of the Appellate Division judgment.

 

Earlier on June 7, the prison authorities served the death warrant issued by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT-BD) to 1971 war crimes convict Mir Quasem Ali.

 

The development came a day after the Supreme Court's Appellate Division released the full text of its verdict on Ali's appeal prayer upholding the original verdict of the ICT-BD.

 

In line with legal procedures, the apex court judgment was immediately sent to the tribunal, which in turn issued the death warrant and reached it to the prison authorities in Dhaka by late June 6.
