Ahsanullah Master murder: HC upholds death for 6

The High Court (HC) has upheld death penalty of six persons who were convicted earlier by a trail court of killing Awami League lawmaker Ahsanullah Master.

The bench of Justices Obaidul Hassan and Krishna Debnath announced the verdict on Wednesday on death references and appeals of the convicts sentenced for the killing in Gazipur.

The six convicts are: Nurul Islam Sarkjer, Nurul Islam Dipu, Mahbubur Rahman, Shahidul Islam Situ, Hafiz alias Kana Hafiz and Sohag alias Suruj.

Ahsanullah Master, a popular Gazipur politician and Awami League MP, was gunned down on May 7, 2004, while addressing a local conference held on a school ground near his home.

On April 2005, a speedy trial court sentenced 22 people including the primary accused BNP leader Nurul Islam Sarkar to death and awarded life in prison to six others.
