6 gunmen killed, 1 held: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that 13 hostages have been rescued alive from the Holey Artisan restaurant in Dhaka’s Gulshan-2 which was attacked by armed gunmen on Friday night.

“Besides, six gunmen have been killed and another was arrested,” the PM said while speaking a programme at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Dhaka on Saturday noon after the crisis ended.

At the program the prime minister inaugurated the four-lane Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Mymemnsingh Highways.  

The PM also extended her heartiest congratulations to all including para commando for conducting a successful operation to rescue the hostages from the Holey Artisan restaurant.

"I congratulate our first para commando battalion for conducting a successful operation in Holey Artisan Bakery to free the hostages from the armed militants inside the restaurant," she said.

Sheikh Hasina also congratulated army, navy, air force, RAB and BGB personnel for carrying out the successful operation. "We have been able to kill the terrorists with united efforts of all," she said.
