‘US committed to maintaining ties with Bangladesh’

US is committed to maintaining its relationship with Bangladesh based on the combined values to go forward with all, visiting special envoy of the country Nisha Desai has said.

The US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Desai Biswal said this while briefing media after a meeting with Bangaldesh’s Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan at the Secretariat on Monday.

“I am here to offer US assistance and support for Bangladesh’s own effort against terrorism and violent extremism,” Nisha said adding that it is the part of US’s combined values to go forward with all.

After the meeting, the home minister said, “The US has proposed to provide any kind of assistances which we will want. Now we will verify that which types of assistances we will be needed.”  

Nisha Desai, who is in the city on a two-day official visit for security issues after the Dhaka café attack, yesterday offered technical and specialist assistances in capacity building of Bangladesh’s counter-terrorism unit with viewing to curb terrorism and militancy.

Today, she reiterated her commitment and lauded the Bangladesh’s law enforcing agencies’ efforts in tackling the terrorism and extremism issues.
