Shyamal Kanti, Salim Osman victims of situation: Police

The incident of the humiliation of Shyamal Kanti Bhakta, headmaster of Piyar Sattar Latif High School in Bandar Upazila of Narayanganj, was happened suddenly for allegedly hurting religious sentiment, says the probe report.   

Police submitted its probe report before the High Court on Sunday portraying that lawmaker Salim Osman and teacher Shyamal Kanti both were the victims of arisen situation and there are no complaint against anyone.

Deputy Attorney General Motahar Hossain presented the report before the High Court. Later, the bench of Justice Mainul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Ashish Ranjan Das fixed August 10 for an order in this regard.

According to the report, Shyamal Kanti said that he and Salim Osman were the victims of an unexpected situation that arose out of a false rumour and he will not file any complaint for it.

On May 13, locals beat Shyamal Kanti Bhakta for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. At one stage, local MP AKM Selim Osman forced him to do sit-ups holding his ears.

A video clip of the incident went viral on social media, triggering public outrage and a firestorm of protests on social networking sites with people mimicking the squatting holding their earlobes.
