Rampal Plant not harmful for Sundarbans: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina once again claimed that the proposed Rampal coal-fired power plant would not damage Sundarbans.
The Premier made the claim while addressing a media briefing on the proposed Rampal coal-fired power plant.
The press briefing was started around 4.00 pm at her official residence Gonobhaban today.
A powerpoint presentation has also been showed to the attendees in the press briefing.
Pointing to the criticism against the plant, the Prime Minister said, 'A certain quarter in the society is trying sabotage the Rampal project by fabricating stories and twisting facts.'
The Rampal power plant project is a joint venture of Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and the National Thermal Power Corporation Limited of India under the name of Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company.
Earlier on August 24, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia alleged that the Rampal Power Plant is an anti-people project.
She came up with the allegation while addressing a press conference at her Gulshan political office on the day.
