War terror Mir Quasem hanged

War criminal Mir Quasem Ali has been hanged at Kashimpur Central Jail-2 in Gazipur tonight.

 

The war time terror has been hanged for his crimes against humanity committed during the Bangladesh liberation war against Pakistan in 1971.

 

Earlier the execution order to hang the war criminal Mir Quasem Ali was reached at Kashimpur Central Jail-2 in Gazipur on Saturday.

 

The family members of Quasem Ali, however, met him in Kashimpur Central Jail-2 in Gazipur this afternoon.

 

Mir Quasem's family members including his wife and offspring entered the jail premises around 3:40pm.

 

Earlier in the day, Family of the Jamaat moneyman was asked to meet him at the jail today.

 

The Jamaat-e-Islami leader has been hanged after he refused to seek presidential mercy for his crimes.

 

Earlier, the jail authorities started the process of hanging Mir Quasem Ali as per the Supreme Court verdict following his decision not to seek presidential mercy.

 

Security in and around Kashimpur Central Jail was beefed up over the imminent execution.

 

Law enforcers were deployed in front of the jail gate with an increased number of regular jail guards.

 

Besides, leave of all jail officials and employees has been cancelled.

 

The Supreme Court upheld the death penalty for Jamaat-e-Islami moneyman Mir Quasem Ali rejecting a petition filed by him seeking review on August 30.

 

A five-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha upheld the apex court's earlier verdict that upheld his death penalty for his wartime crimes.

 

On March 8 this year, the Appellate Division upheld the death penalty for Mir Quasem Ali for his war crimes and released the full text on June 6, hours after which the ICT had issued a death warrant for him.

 

On June 19, Quasem submitted the petition to the apex court through his lawyers, seeking review of the verdict.

 

The International Crimes Tribunal-2 sentenced Mir Quasem Ali, Al-Badr chief in the port city of Chittagong in 1971, to death on November 2, 2014.

 

On November 30, 2014, he filed an appeal before the Supreme Court challenging the death penalty.

 

Top Jamaat-e-Islami financier Quasem, 64, was president of the Chittagong town unit of Islami Chhatra Sangha, the then student wing of Jamaat, till November 6, 1971.

 

He was then made general secretary of the East Pakistan Chhatra Sangha.
