Gulshan attack financers identified: Monirul

Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit Chief Monirul Islam today revealed that the financers in the Gulshan terror attack were identified.

 

He came up with the comment while replying questions to journalists in a press conference held at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police media centre on Tuesday.

 

'Rokonuddin Khondoker, who fled to Syria, and Major (retd) Jahidul Islam and Tanvir Kaderi killed in Rupnagar and Azimpur raids donated to Neo JMB that carried out the Holey Artisan attack,' Monirul Islam told journalists.

 

Earlier the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md. Assaduzzaman Mia also said the fomenters of the attack in Gulshan's Holey Artisan Bakery has been identified and will be arrested at any moment.

 

DMP Commissioner said, 'We've come to know who and how made happen that incident. We're trying to detain them. Hopefully, they will be brought under justice soon.'

 

On July 1 evening, seven gunmen stormed the Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka and opened fire and took around 40 people, including restaurant staff and guests -- both locals and foreigners -- hostage.

 

Twenty hostages -- nine Italians, seven Japanese, one Indian, one Bangladeshi American and two Bangladeshis -- were killed in the terror attack on the night.
