No counter statement on ‘Neo JMB’ chief: Benazir

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) won’t give counter statement regarding the organizational position of slain Sarwar Jahan alias Abdur Rahman’s being chief ‘Neo JMB’, said elite force's Director General Benazir Ahmed.

Benazir told Samakal on Thursday noon that the RAB won’t give any counter statement in this regard as they have the previous one.

Citing communications between Abdur Rahman and Tamim Chowdhury, the RAB had claimed that Abdur Rahman was the chief the banned extremist outfit.

Benazir on October 21 had claimed that the real name of the Neo JMB chief is Sarwar Jahan, known in the extremist circle as Shaykh Abu Ibrahim Al-Hanif.

On the other hand, police on Wednesday claimed Abdur Rahman was rather a third-tier leader of the group.

DMP's Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit chief Monirul Islam claimed Abdur Rahman was in the lower ranks of the leadership after the ‘deputies’ of the alleged mastermind of the Gulshan attack Tamim Chowdhury.

Abdur Rahman died after jumping off a five-storey building during a raid in Ashulia on October 8.
